SPEATBC Scholarships

SPEATBC will be awarding four scholarships this year for students in a technical Engineering related field of study. The scholarships will be for a value of $1500 each. The selection criteria will be as follows:

One scholarship will be awarded to each of:

ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP – a high school student (grade 12) or recent graduate (within 2 years) planning on pursuing post-secondary studies upon graduation in an engineering or technology-related field of study at a recognized university, college, or technical school in BC

POST SECONDARY SCHOLARSHIP – a post-secondary student enrolled in an engineering or technology-related field of study at a recognized university, college, or technical school in BC

WOMAN IN ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP – a woman student enrolled in an engineering or technology-related field of study at a recognized university, college, or technical school in BC

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP – an international student studying in Canada with a valid Student Visa enrolled in or pursuing an engineering or technology-related field of study at a recognized university, college, or technical school in BC

SPEATBC will be awarding Four Scholarships of $1500 each this year in the following categories:

SCHOLARSHIP CATEGORIES:

1. ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP - a high school student (grade 12) or recent graduate (within 2 years) planning on pursuing post-secondary studies upon graduation in an engineering or technology-related field of study at a recognized university, college, or technical school in BC

2. POST-SECONDARY SCHOLARSHIP - a post-secondary student enrolled in an engineering or technology-related field of study at a recognized university, college, or technical school in BC

3. WOMAN IN ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP - a woman student enrolled in an engineering or technology-related field of study at a recognized university, college, or technical school in BC

4. INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP – an international student studying in Canada with a valid Student Visa enrolled in or pursuing an engineering or technology-related field of study at a recognized university, college, or technical school in BC

Please note that applications MUST be received before the application deadline: 31st December, 2024 (11:59 PM)

  • Scholarship winners will be announced 1st week of February 2025 on our social media pages, website.
  • Scholarship certificates will be awarded to all winners and short video for each winner will be recorded, shared on our website, social media pages.
  • Scholarship funds will be provided at SPEATBC’s Annual Gala in Feb 2025 after proof of enrollment is provided and the minimum 20 hrs volunteer work is achieved.

MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Depending upon Scholarship applied - Applicants must be Canadian Citizens or Canadian Permanent Residents or Landed Immigrants or have a Valid Student Visa

1. ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP

  • Be registered as a full-time student in grade 12 at a high school in BC or has recently completed a Grade 12 graduation (within 2 years) and has not enrolled in any post-secondary education within the time of high school graduation and the Winter Term of the current school year
  • Plan on pursuing post-secondary studies upon graduation in an engineering or technology-related field of study

2. POST-SECONDARY SCHOLARSHIP

  • Be registered as a full-time student in a postsecondary institute (university, technical institute, or college) within the Province of BC for the current school year
  • Be enrolled in an engineering-related field of study

3. WOMAN IN ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP

  • Must be a female student
  • Be registered as a full-time student in a postsecondary institute (university, technical institute, or college) within the Province of BC for the current year
  • Be enrolled in an engineering or technology-related field of study

4. INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP

  • Be registered as a full-time student in a post-secondary institute (university, technical institute, or college) within the Province of BC for the current school year
  • Be enrolled in an engineering-related field of study
  • Must provide valid Student Visa for the current school year

SELECTION CRITERIA

Recipients for the Awards will be determined by:

  • Academic Achievement
  • Involvement in extra-curricular activities(especially involvement in either activities related to the engineering profession, or activities within the Indo-Canadian community)
  • Needs basis as demonstrated by details in the application form

A SPEATBC Scholarship Recipient can be awarded only one scholarship in a period of three consecutive years.

The SPEATBC Executive Committee has the sole right to:

  • Determine the number of scholarships to be awarded each year,
  • Determine the amount of each scholarship, and
  • Select the winning recipients of the scholarship awards.
