The 4-H program provides young people with an opportunity to learn how to become productive, self-assured adults who can make their community and country a good place in which to live. This is fostered through project and program work, experiences with their 4-H club members and leaders and their participation in district, regional and even provincial programs.
The goal of the 4-H program is youth development. The objectives of 4-H clubs are knowledge, leadership, citizenship and personal development.
Information Checklist
- Phone number, address, and principal/dean’s name of your current school.
- Information related to 4-H, such as:
- Number of years you have achieved in 4-H.
- Number of meetings held by your club in the past five years.
- Number of club meetings you attended in the past five years.
- Details about the committees you have been on.
- Details about your participation in Public Speaking, Demonstrations, Educational Displays, Speak & Show, Judging, and provincial opportunities.
- List of your extracurricular activities and hobbies unrelated to 4-H.
- General information about the school you are planning to attend and the program you are planning to complete.
- Budget in the form of a chart or Excel spreadsheet detailing your first or current year of post-secondary education. Needs to include all of your income and expenses.
- Essay of approximately 250 - 300 words on the topic “My Plans for Post-Secondary Education.” Should include your objectives and career alternatives.
- Copy of your most recent school transcript.
- 3 personal references: a community reference, an academic reference, and a 4-H reference. Must include a phone number and letter of reference from each.
