The Debra McPherson Member Education Bursary is available to all active BCNU members who pay dues, including student nurses who are employed. The bursary honors Debra McPherson — BCNU president from 1990–1994 and again from 2000–2014 — and reflects her commitment to expanding learning opportunities for union members. Eligible programs and courses - Post-basic clinical seminars, programs or conferences - Courses aimed at developing specific skills - Training that enables a change in practice (for example, a move from long-term care to acute care) - Specialty training - Career laddering programs (e.g., PCA → LPN, LPN → RN/RPN) - Courses that lead to a post-secondary nursing degree - English language upgrading - Relevant computer skills upgrading - Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) first-time course and exam; CNA re-certification courses or exam fees are also eligible Other courses may qualify at the discretion of BCNU’s Bursary Committee. Application timeline Applications are accepted beginning in January through to September 15. The annual application deadlines are April 15 and September 15.
