Application timeline

The Centennial Scholars Entrance Award application and the UBC admission application share the same deadline in December. All components of the Entrance Award application — including the Student Application Form, Description of Circumstance, Reference Form, and Parent/Guardian Form (if applicable) — must be received by that deadline. UBC will notify the majority of award recipients by May 15. Only successful applicants will be contacted.

Application Timeline: Submit both your UBC admission application and the complete Entrance Award application by the December due date; expect notification for most recipients by May 15.

  • Both admission and award applications are due in December.
  • Include all required award documents before the deadline.
  • Most recipients are contacted by May 15; only successful applicants are notified.

Are you eligible?

The Centennial Scholars Entrance Award targets academically strong students who demonstrate financial need and meet UBC admissions requirements. Eligible applicants must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or protected persons in Canada, and must be entering directly from high school or transferring from another post-secondary institution. Applicants must be applying to a direct-entry undergraduate program at UBC and must not hold a previous degree. You may apply for this award and the Presidential Scholars Award simultaneously if you meet both sets of criteria.

Eligibility:

  • You must meet UBC admissions requirements and demonstrate strong academic performance.
  • You must demonstrate financial need.
  • You must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person in Canada.
  • You must be entering directly from high school or transferring from another post‑secondary institution.
  • You must be applying to a direct‑entry undergraduate program at UBC and not have a previous degree.
  • Your award application is considered only for your first-choice campus and degree.
  • Academic strength and financial need are both required.
  • Citizenship or protected status in Canada is mandatory.
  • Only first-choice programs are considered for this award.

How do you apply?

Applying requires two coordinated submissions: the UBC admission application and the UBC Entrance Award application. Both must be completed and received by the same December deadline. Follow the published UBC application instructions and ensure all award components are attached or submitted as required. Missing documents can make an application ineligible for consideration.

Application steps:

  1. Submit your UBC admission application by the deadline.
  2. Complete and submit the UBC Entrance Award application by the deadline.
  • Complete both the admission and award applications by the same deadline.
  • Double-check that all award documents are included before submission.
  • Follow UBC instructions to avoid incomplete or ineligible submissions.

What do you need for the UBC Entrance Award application?

The Entrance Award application must include a Student Application Form plus supporting documents that explain your circumstances and provide references. The Description of Circumstance (maximum 1,000 words) should outline your personal, family, and financial situation, describe your contributions and interests, and explain how the award would affect you. A Parent/Guardian Form is required for students who attended high school within the past 48 months; if you cannot provide one, explain the situation in your Description of Circumstance. A Reference Form from someone familiar with your character and circumstances is also required.

Required materials:

  • Student Application Form
  • Description of Circumstance (maximum 1,000 words): Explain your personal, family, and financial situation; describe your involvement in school, community, or family; state your interest in contributing to UBC; and explain how the award would affect you. If you self‑identify with an underrepresented donor‑funded group, indicate this in your statement.
  • Parent/Guardian Form: Provides family financial information and is required for students who have attended high school within the past 48 months. If you cannot submit this form, explain why in your Description of Circumstance.
  • Reference Form: From someone well acquainted with you who can comment on your character, interest in UBC, and financial circumstances (e.g., teacher, coach, counsellor, supervisor, family doctor, or community leader).
  • Provide a clear, concise Description of Circumstance (max 1,000 words).
  • Include a Parent/Guardian Form if applicable, or explain absence of one.
  • Choose a reference who can speak to character and financial need.
